Mrs. Boles was born in Elbert County on October 4, 1929, to the late Thomas and Ruby Elizabeth Fleming Gunter. She was a seamstress, homemaker, and a member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church. Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Billy Thomas Boles, Sr.; children, Dianne Boles Steedly of Marietta, Judy Boles Vaughn and her husband Bobby of Elberton, and Billy Thomas Boles, Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Acworth; sister, Marjorie Bettis of Elberton; grandchildren, Chris Steedly and his wife Brooke, Brendi Neitzey, Lee Vaughn and his wife Hope, Lindsay Johnson and her husband Clay, and Drew Boles; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Larry Wayne Smith, of Carlton, Ga., passed away Saturday, October 26, 2013, at his home. Mr. Smith was born in Oglethorpe County, June 12, 1943. He was the son of the late Henry Lawrence Smith and Lou Hilda Harrison Smith. He was also preceded in death by brothers: Clayton Smith, Donald Smith and George Smith. He was retired from the Textile Industry and was a member of Burt’s United Methodist Church, Carlton. Gregory Martin Adams, 61, of Whiteside Drive Elberton, Georgia significant other of Barbara Edwards passed away Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, Georgia. Born March 18, 1952 in Detroit, Michigan to Charles Adams and Marilyn Adams. He was a Master Plaster and owned and operated G. Adams Creations. Left to cherish his memories are his significant other for eleven and half years Barbara Edwards of Elberton, Georgia; son Jeremy Adams of Clawson, Michigan; brother and sister-in-law James and Barbara Adams of Cape Coral, Florida and a sister Debbie Meyers of Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Kathleen Taylor Lunsford, age 97, of Elberton, Georgia passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2013. Born August 4, 1916 in Elbert County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Betty Taylor. She was a member of Concord United Methodist Church. Mrs. Lunsford is survived by her children: Roberta Isom of Elberton, Ralph Lunsford of Elberton, Horace Lunsford (Jane) of Elberton, Sandra Whiting (Kenneth) of Hartwell, and Carol Hill (Larry) of Hartwell. She also leaves behind six grandchildren: Jerry Kotal, Tom Lunsford, Michael Hill, Scott Lunsford, Melissa Dove, and Chris Whiting; eleven great-grandchildren: Alexa and Tori Kotal, Bailey and Gabe Hill, Coty, Joey, and Ayden Lunsford, Emily and Chloe Whiting, and Cameron and Hunter Carter; and one great-great grandchild, Hailey Grace Lunsford. He was married for over 42 years to his wife, Elaine Scott Hall. Mr. Hall worked for Rucker Trucking throughout his life, and was a member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife, Mr. Hall is survived by a daughter: Jennifer Ward (Mike); and a son, Jordan Hall. Mr. James Harry Penland, 90, of Elberton, Georgia passed away Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Spring Valley Nursing Home. Mr. Penland was born in North Carolina to the late Gordon and Edna Penland. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Penland, and a son, Tony Penland. He spent his life as a furniture builder, and thoroughly enjoyed outdoor activities including hunting and fishing. Mr. Charlie Lucrie Theodore Roth, Jr., 88, of Carlton, passed away November 5, 2013, at his home. He was born in Wilkes County on October 6, 1925 to the late Charlie Lucrie Theodore and Lottie Jeanette Patrick Roth. Mr. Roth was retired form the granite business. Ms. Peggy Louise Eaves, 56, of Elberton, Georgia, passed away Friday, November 22, 2013, at Nancy Hart Health Care surrounded by her loved ones. Peggy was born to the late Charles P. (Beffy) Eaves and the late Mrs. Martha King Eaves on February 13, 1957. She owned and operated the Rock Branch Beauty and Barber Shop in the Rock Branch area for 23 years. She also owned and operated Miss Peggy’s Playhouse for numerous years. She worked for CampHarmony as the CampDirector for 6 years following her father’s death. She coached basketball from 1989 through 2002. She was the team captain for the Rock Branch Honey’s from 1998 – 2008 and was on the Relay for Life Board for 6 years. Ms. Eaves is survived by one daughter, Tiffany Michele Dougall of District Heights, MD and one son, Michael Nathaniel Dougall of Annapolis, MD. Carol Kantala Burns
Carol Kantala Burns’ life’s journey ended on November 26th at the age of 62 after 6 years of battling breast cancer. She was the daughter of Sara Tatum Kantala, and the late Matthew Walter Kantala, Jr, of Elberton, Georgia, wife of James Dean Burns and mother of Sara Emily Burns of Snellville, Georgia. Survivors also include her brother, Matthew Walter Kantala, III, of Elberton and sister, Carin Kantala McDaniel, of Hiawassee, Ga. She lived in the Atlanta area for over 40 years and was employed by the investment firms of Invesco, Inc. and Montag & Caldwell, heading their equity trading departments. Happily retired, Carol enjoyed her life on their farm, in particular gardening and caring for their animals. A memorial service is to be held on the 15th of December, 3:00 PM at Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Decatur, GA.
